RE: Mex 2 between Sonoyta and Santa Ana, any current updates?

Jim,
I'm not sure why you wish to cross at Sonoyta if you are not going to go to Puerto Penasco. The road from Gila Bend to Lukeville is two lane and although scenic is slower than taking Hwy 8 to Casa Grande and then south thru Tuscon and onto Nogales. You would then have a 4 lane all the way to the border.
I usually go this way when going to Kino Bay but return thru Sonoyta on the way home as the border crossing there going north typically takes me less time.
Just a thought.

RE: Mex 2 between Sonoyta and Santa Ana, any current updates?

Delfin,
I came thru there again the other way about 3 weeks ago. The first 25% of the road is 2 lane and goes well, There is then 25% Mexican three lane with construction. The last 50% is a very nice four lane divided road. You will find construction and widening of the road but very doable.

RE: Travel from Kino to Rocky point

I have taken Hwy 37 from Puerto Penasco to Kino Bay on two occassions. The road condition depends greatly on the rain they have had. One time it was ok and the next very rough and potholed. This road goes thru Caborca and there is very little ocean view.

RE: Highway 2 repairs, sonora

I came thru Hwy 2 on January 2, 2008 and there was minimal construction at that time. About 1/2 the way is 4 lane tole road, 1/4 is Mexican three lane and 1/4 is 2 lane but seems to be in good shape. I would go that way again. Actually the road from Lukevill to Gilla Bend seemed to be worse.

RE: Travelling on Motorcycle

You will not have problems with the roads but the weather in the central area of Mexico (higher elevations) might be a bit cold for you. The east or west coast would be your best bet. Be aware that not all RV parks in Mexico have the ammenities you would likely find in the US such as clean showers and restrooms, but motels are cheap in MX.

RE: MEXICAN FIRST AID KIT

I might add just a couple of other items:
1. An anitibiotic ointment such as Bacitracin.
2. A pain medication such as Darvacet (Rx).
3. A good general antibiotic, such as Ciprofloxacin (Rx).
4. Something for poison oak or ivy such as calamine lotion.
